Jake’s Comments:

I was very surprised by this pizza. Admittedly, I was a tad hungry when entering, but I did my best to keep my objectivity. I ordered a pizza that, while it wasn’t their signature pizza, it certainly looked good. I will tell you it didn’t disappoint. It was delicious. I am a big fan of cream cheese and while the pizza did not have cream cheese by default, I made sure to get it on half of the pizza. It was delicious either way.

The drink selection was very good as well. I expected the usual Coke and Pepsi, but was pleasantly surprised when it was Boylan’s instead. This is rare and very welcomed. Everything was good.

We even ordered some garlic knots and salad. I am not a major fan of salad in general (salad is salad) so I won’t comment on it, but the knots were very nice indeed.

I don’t give five stars easily, but this was VERY good pizza. I am very impressed with it. I highly recommend this place and will be sure to take others here.

Julia’s Comments:

Jake and I were feeling super sexy today and so decided we needed some Sexy Pizza!

So here’s the deal, we looked this pizza up online and found that it had a bunch of bad reviews.  But none of them were about the PIZZA!  It seems that a lot of people have ordered from this restaurant via delivery and can only complain about the delivery time.  Now before I give my pizza review, it would help to know that this is not some cheap assembly line chain restaurant.  After visiting this establishment and tasting their pizza, I can confirm that this is a specialty pizza establishment.   So, in that context, I suggest that all of these pizza reviewers complaining about delivery should probably contemplate ordering from Pizza Hut next time if they can’t have the patience for a QUALITY pizza.  Just saying… it’s worth the wait.

So now… onto the pizza.  This pizza was freaking amazing.  I would just like to get that out of the way.  A MAAAAA ZING!  And from the time we ordered this pizza to the time it took to be on our table was not long at all.  This pizza was all kinds of fun.  First of all it was the biggest pizza I’ve had in a while.  If you look at the pictures you will see a picture of a fork being completely dwarfed by the slice of pizza next to it.  It was truly a “fold in half and chow down” sort of pizza slice.  The crust was thin and, although I usually don’t care for thin crusts at all, I enjoyed this one incredibly.  It wasn’t super dry and crispy like a lot of thin crusts are.  This was soft and fluffy and had bubbles all around the outside part of the crust.  I love when the dough does that on pizzas.  The sauce was flavorful and just the right amount and I could describe the cheese the same.  I think we chose a very good pizza out of their selection.  (Jake ordered some cream cheese on half of the pizza just to try it out and that was pretty delicious too.  It added a very creamy flavor/texture to those slices)  We ordered a salad as well and let me tell you that this salad was a field day for my palate.  It even had bacon on it!  The bread knots we got were a little disappointing because there were only 6 tiny ones, but they only cost $2.50 and I figure if you like them you could order a double since they tasted really delicious and I imagine that they made them by hand back there, not from a bag of frozen stuff.  And last but not least, their POP! (That’s soda in Michigan speak)  Their pop machine was a big surprise!  It was all Boylan’s brand Creme Soda, Ginger Ale, Cane Cola, Black Cherry and Orange.  Must I go on?  We wanted to taste them all and pondered how wonderful the world would be if more places served this.

So… to give a final recap

1. Don’t complain about delivery time if you really want a delicious pizza.  It’s worth the wait!

2. Everything about this place was great.  Try visiting the actual restaurant for a nice experience.

3. This pizza was freaking delicious.

Between Jake and I, we DEMOLISHED that pizza.  I give this pizza 5 stars!

Julia’s Review:

We decided to go here because we read that they had been given 5 stars and was voted the best pizza place by all of the locals.  And we thought it was interesting that their name was Chicago’s Best when they are so far from Chicago.  Now I didn’t go and try all of the competitors pizzas to see how they compare but I personally wouldn’t give this a 5 star rating.  The place definitely had some charm and was a little “worn in” but we don’t want to give reviews on buildings.  We want to give reviews on pizza!  The pizzas took a little while and we were pretty hungry and looking forward to these pizzas.  When they arrived we were pleasantly surprised to find that, although they were round pizzas, they were sliced in squares.  We had fun eating it like that.  I felt that the crust was nice in that it was a thicker crust, but the crust was fairly dense which made you really have to chew at it. Also, they were REALLY greasy!  When I tilted my pizza to the side, a bunch of the grease ran off the surface creating a little grease puddle on my plate.  I would say the flavor was enjoyable even with the dense crust and grease puddles and I think the presentation of the pizza was nice as well.  I am having a hard time rating this pizza because I think it is truly better than average but I was a little disappointed in the texture and flavor of the crust.  I think a big part of their top ratings are probably because of the community’s love of their business and you can’t argue with that! :)  I give this pizza 3.5 stars.

Jake’s Review:

When we arrived in Estes, we were in the mood for pizza. I opened Urbanspoon and locked it to my usual category, pizza. Chicago’s best showed up as the best pizza. We all decided to try it. The place has a very local flavor. It is clear that it is where the locals go. The pizza itself was average. I didn’t hate it, but it wasn’t something I’d like to repeat. We even ordered two different pizzas and both were about the same as far as quality. There is nothing wrong with the pizza. It is decent. However, it certainly could be better, especially for the price. The store itself was decently clean.

Jake’s Comments:

The pizza was very good. The artichokes and olives added a very nice salty taste to the pizza that was well received. The feta also complimented it well. Crust had a dusting of flour which made the entire experience complete. The store itself was very basic, which isn’t a bad thing for a pizza joint. It just means that they focus on food. I would have liked to eat the pizza there (they did have one table) but it felt odd to do so. The store itself was clean (as far as pizza joints go) and the employees were very friendly.

Julia’s Comments:

We were really hopeful for a good experience for our first pizza rating, so, when we found Goombas, our expectations were probably already really high. Goombas really lived up to our expectations in every way. This pizza had the most PERFECT crust I have ever eaten on a pizza. It wasn’t too dry and it wasn’t too greasy. It wasn’t too thin and it wasn’t too thick. Just like in the story of Goldilocks, this crust was JUST freaking right! And I could say the same about the toppings, they were really fresh and just the right amount. They had a very large and unique assortment of specialty pizzas on their menu and we had a hard time picking which one to try but I feel like we chose one of their best pizzas. Being that this pizza joint is sort of in the middle of nowhere, you can understand how they must be staying in business with their interesting location. It is because they are truly the best pizza decision you will make!

P.S.  We can’t help but wonder if the name is a Mario Brothers reference :)
